Operators that implement their VAS without SDP have no control over the services offered by the VASPs and they may face possible intrusive campaigns, lack of control of the messages sent or, even, fraud scenarios. All of them redound in user complaints about the charging of non-purchased services. SDP adds a layer of abstraction between network elements and Value Added Service Providers (VASP) . VASPs access the network through standardized interfaces exposed by the SDP, where the SDP applies the different business rules and logics according to the needs of each VAS. The SDP has integration and access to network resources, such as: SMSC, MMSC, GMLC (Location), OCS, USSD GW, etc.

It is important to point out that technical and administrative obstacles are reduced, favoring and simplifying the interaction between the different actors It allows to simplify the administration and control of the communication service provider environment and to maximize the existing resources in the network.

Time-to-market is considerably reduced, which allows adapting to business or regulatory changes quickly and effectively – CAPEX is decreased and New options are opened for VASPs when offering services (Generation of new applications in a flexible way that increase the operator’s revenue)

Direct Carrier Billing – OTT

Allows to offer prepaid services and subscriptions to third parties using the operator’s infrastructure. ts main objective is to provide payment mechanisms and OTT services to the unbanked; i.e.: Netflix or Spotify subscription.

Direct Carrier Billing – IoT

Allows to provide payment services integrated to platforms and providers of IoT solutions. Its main objective is to provide payment mechanisms via multiple IoT platforms, beginning the purchase either through the IoT platform, or by the user via SMS and apps; and confirming the charge through them.

Mobile Identity Provider (MIP)

Offers the operator the possibility to provide centralized identity services to be used with web services and APPs integrated to the operator. It is used in cases as single sign-on, MSISDN as authorization method and Anonymous Customer Reference (ACR)

The protocols used by location service clients are mainly based on web technologies such as Palay-X-Location. SDP will translate the messages into a language that can be used by the core of the messaging network, such as MLP 3.0 or MLP 3.2. In the case that it is not necessary to carry out protocol conversion, it simply takes care of routing the location messages

Consumption control

Some regulators require operators to control the balance and payment of SMS content services.
The objective is to be able to verify that the maximum payment limit to the subscriber per month defined in the regulation is not exceeded. With the SDP Framework and the modules provided by the platform, it is possible to develop the logic to be applied in a simple way and in a reduced Time-to-Market.

911 geolocation service

Before MO messages sent to 911, it is necessary to obtain the location of a subscriber and send it to the involved body (police, regulatory body, etc.)
With the SDP Framework it is possible to execute a routing callback when messages are received to 911.
This process triggers a series of actions that allow obtaining the location of the subscriber regardless of the network in which it is located and sending said information to the authorities.
